Speciality Division (SPD)

There has been a lot of discussion with our members and clubs wanting to allow shooters to compete with rimfire guns because of the current ammunition situation that is affecting everyone. It is certainly good to have alternatives for our members.

While we are not going to issue a new rulebook with rules for new divisions, Specialty Divisions (SPD) for IDPA matches has been part of our rulebook for a number of years (rules 8.1.2 and 8.2.10).

This division is optional at all IDPA matches, per the discretion of Match Directors, with a few caveats:

  1. The shooter uses their highest classification from another division and must be a member in good standing
  2. All other gear rules must be followed for the division. (e.g. holsters, belts, and pouches)
  3. The scores will not contribute to the member’s record on IDPA for National Match points. IDPA.com only reflects regular division scores, thus SPD results will not appear on IDPA.com, although they may show up in local scoring results
  4. There is no basis for appeal or arbitration for firearms and shooters competing in SPD

If you have a question about this division or the use of rimfire ammo at matches, please contact your Area Coordinator for assistance.
