IDPA U.S. Nationals
We are ramping up for the 2013 U.S. Nationals in September which will be held September 19-21 at the U.S. Shooting Academy in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Those
of you that shot the matches in 2009 and 2010 will remember what a great facility this is and can imagine how excited we are to be returning.
As you may already know, John May will be returning as our Match Director. John has the distinction of being the only MD to have presided
over four previous IDPA National Championships. We are very lucky to have him back and those of you planning to shoot the U.S. Nationals this year can expect a
great course of fire.
The selection of Safety Officers will take place next week, so if you have not yet sent in your SO application you will need to do so
before Monday, April 22 in order to be considered. The applications are available on the website under the U.S. National Championship page or by clicking here. We appreciate everyone steps
up to volunteer to work this event.
There is also a great deal of important information regarding the match, the points selection process, entry mailing dates and other items
available on the U.S. National Championship event page as well. We will be posting more information to that page as it becomes available, such as hotel and
awards banquet info and the final stages and round count once they are finalized. I encourage you to take a look at this page and remember to bookmark it for
future reference. You can find it on the IDPA website or by clicking here.
IDPA's New Website
Speaking of the website,
I know that a lot of you have already visited the new IDPA.com, but come of you haven't. I encourage each of you to go online to www.idpa.com and familiarize
yourself with the new look and features. I think you'll find there is a lot more going on there than on our old website.
The new IDPA.com has the ability to make your individual membership and club affiliations much more informative and interactive. For an
individual you can now create a profile that others can view as well as keep track of matches you have shot. You can also bookmark friends, clubs and matches
that you want to keep track of as well.
IDPA.com provides clubs with far more features than the old website, allowing club contacts to provide members more information on club locations,
upcoming events and other relevant items IDPA members need to find your club and your matches. In the future, RangeLog will offering clubs the optional ability
to do online squadding and accept match payment online.
We think you will really enjoy the features and tools the new website will give you. For club contacts and members needing assistance, we have set
up two online webinars in the coming weeks to assist. The first will be held Monday, April 22nd from 6:30 - 7:30 PM EST and the second on Monday, April 29th
from 7 - 8 PM EST; to attend, visit support.rangelog.com/idpa (this link removed because it is no longer valid) the
day of the webinar for a link to access the demonstration.
IDPA at the NRA Annual Meetings
If you are headed to the
NRA Show on May 3-5 in Houston then plan on seeing use there as IDPA will be one of those exhibiting. You can find us at booth number 1866. We will have
Executive Director Joyce Wilson in the booth as well as Robert Ray and Allison Neil from IDPA Headquarters. Other guests in the booth will be Panteao Team
shooters Tom Yost and Bob Vogel. So come by booth #1866 and visit with us. We can talk about shooting, guns and everybody's favorite subject, the new rulebook.
We look forward to seeing you in Houston.
IDPA BUG Nationals
Last but not least, IDPA and Smith & Wesson are pleased to announce that the 161-year-old legendary American firearms maker will be the title sponsor
of IDPA's first ever Back Up Gun
Nationals to take place November 14-16, 2013.
Smith & Wesson, which for 16 years has organized, sponsored and hosted the IDPA Indoor Nationals, is again leading the way as the driving
force behind the organization of this new national
level championship. You can see the full announcement on the Zero Down
I know that a couple of you will take a look at the rulebook and say "but you can't do that!" Well congratulations, you just got your first look at
the new rulebook. IDPA HQ will have the power to sanction specialty matches. Now this does not mean that everything will get approved, but if you have an idea
for a special sanctioned match start working out the details and polishing the idea for presentation to HQ.
In announcing the BUG Nationals, Paul Pluff of Smith & Wesson noted, "For 16 years Smith & Wesson has helped grow the sport, and the new Back
Up Gun National Championship represents our ongoing commitment to expanding the shooting sports."
We think this sentiment will serve as a good guideline in developing the kind of specialty matches we believe will add an additional
element of creativity, challenge and entertainment to the sanctioned match schedule.
