BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Duncan McNaughton captured High Junior honors at the 17th Annual Massachusetts State IDPA Championship, presented by Smith & Wesson.

McNaughton, who competed in the match as a Sharpshooter in the Enhanced Service Pistol division, finished in a time of 311.01 seconds with 104 points down. He was followed by Tyler Wannamaker in Stock Service Pistol where the Marksman finished with 475.94 (225).

Wilfrid Cournoyer Wins Mass. State IDPA Stock Service Revolver Title

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Wilfrid Cournoyer won the Stock Service Revolver division title this past weekend at the 17th Annual Massachusetts State IDPA Championship, presented by Smith & Wesson.

Held Saturday and Sunday, June 1-2, at the Rod & Gun Club of New Bedford located in North Dartmouth, the International Defensive Pistol Association’s (IDPA) state championship match drew 120 top shooters, including Cournoyer who finished the competition in a time of 293.00 seconds with 63 points down. The Expert class shooter won six of the 10 stages in the match.

Dennis Doti, who took first Sharpshooter, finished second overall with 308.49 (76) and two stage wins. Kris Sines also won two stages and finished third overall with 317.84 (81). Rounding out the top five were Peter Goloski, a Marksman, in fourth with 492.24 (139) and Art Benner, a Novice, with 811.13 (230) in fifth.

Dolio Repeats As Mass. IDPA Stock Service Pistol State Champ

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – With the third overall best time, David Dolio defended his 2012 championship run winning the Stock Service Pistol division title this past weekend at the 17th Annual Massachusetts State IDPA Championship, presented by Smith & Wesson.

Despite winning just one of the 10 stages, Dolio managed to outpace the competition with a final time of 196.43 seconds and 53 points down.

Finishing immediately behind Dolio for the second year in a row was Ed Stettmeier as first Master and High Military with 214.48 (78) and four stage wins. Third place went to Bill Desmond, first Expert, with 221.20 (74) and two stage wins.

Rounding out the top five were David Bold, second Master, with 222.42 (77) and Frank Scahill, third Master, with 226.95 (69) and one stage win.

Elsewhere in the division, Justin DeMayo took first Sharpshooter with a time of 249.39 seconds and 103 points down. Woods Wannamaker finished first Marksman with 306.59 (94) while Kristin Brickel took first Novice with 474.38 (185).

Gelberger Rolls To Enhanced Service Revolver Mass. State Title

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Gene Gelberger swept all 10 stages on his way to claiming the Enhanced Service Revolver division title at the 17th Annual Massachusetts State IDPA Championship, presented by Smith & Wesson.

Held last weekend at the Rod & Gun Club of New Bedford located in North Dartmouth, the International Defensive Pistol Association’s (IDPA) state championship match drew 120 top shooters, including Gelberger who finished with a final time of 251.87 seconds with 68 points down.

Second place went to Rob Lacroix, a Sharpshooter who posted a final of 352.36 (117). The defending champion Jerry Richard, classified an Expert, took third with 367.78 (69) while Ward Benner, a Marksman, finished fourth with 663.74 (157).

In ESP Panteao’s Yost Takes Home 4 Titles At Mass. State IDPA

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Winning five of 10 stages and shooting the fewest points down helped propel Team Panteao’s Tom Yost to the Enhanced Service Pistol division title at the 17th Annual Massachusetts State IDPA Championship, presented by Smith & Wesson.

Yost, who finished the match with a final time of 186.03 seconds and just 31 points down, claimed not only the ESP title but also High Senior, High Industry and Most Accurate honors.

Sanctioned by the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) the Massachusetts State IDPA Championship was held Saturday and Sunday, June 1-2, at the Rod & Gun Club of New Bedford located in North Dartmouth and drew 120 competitors.

Finishing first Master behind Yost was Joe Linskey who won two stages and took High Law Enforcement with 194.99 seconds and 44 points down. Third in the division went to Craig Phillips, the second Master, with 208.05 (31) followed by Brian Steskla, third Master, with 208.74 seconds, 70 points down and one stage win, and Dave Solimini, fourth Master, with 217.34 (57).

Elsewhere in the division, Richard Barker finished first Expert with 237.88 (83) and claimed High Military Veteran as well as one stage win. Bill Thorpe took first Sharpshooter with 227.32 (42). Joe Parks finished first Marksman with 324.06 (91). Judith Szczygiel, an Expert class shooter, won High Lady with 313.35 (101) while Duncan McNaughton, a Sharpshooter, took High Junior with 311.01 (104).

IDPA Previews 17th Annual Massachusetts IDPA Championship Course Of Fire

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Organizers of the 17th Annual Massachusetts State IDPA Championship, presented by Smith & Wesson, are previewing all 10 stages of the course of fire competitors will face this weekend.

IDPA members and others interested in the scenarios and stage designs featured in this year’s match, as well as those from past matches, should visit IDPA’s DOWN ZERO blog.

Sanctioned by the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA), the Massachusetts State IDPA Championship will take place Saturday and Sunday, June 1-2, at the Rob & Gun Club of New Bedford located in North Dartmouth.

In addition to determining the state champion in each of IDPA’s five handgun competition divisions, the match also serves as the first leg of the newly established King of New England, which is being presented by Apex Tactical Specialties.

Four stages from each of three major New England championships, starting with the Massachusetts State Championship, will make up the 12 stage challenge. To kick off the King of New England, John Catterall, match director of the Massachusetts State match, has selected the following stages as the Massachusetts State Championship portion of the series:

Stage 1 - Hallway Clearance
Stage 4 - Shrimp Mozambique
Stage 7 - Deep in the Heart of Texas
Stage 8 - Reload Skill Drill: Fast or Slow?
Stage 9 - Easy As 1-2-3 (alternate)

Gordon Carrell Continues Win Streak At Comp-Tac Republic Of Texas

HEMPSTEAD, Texas – For the past 10 years Gordon Carrell has won the Stock Service Pistol title at the Lone Star State’s IDPA championship. This year however, the Team Comp-Tac shooter decided to take a different path, winning instead the Enhanced Service Pistol division title at the Comp-Tac Republic of Texas Championship.

Carrell captured not only the ESP title but also took top honors as the High Industry shooter and the title of Most Accurate, shooting just 11 points down with an overall top time of 151.80 seconds. Carrell outpaced his nearest competitor, defending champion Brian Stricker, by 15.74 seconds, winning seven of the 10 stages within the division with five of those stage wins topping the entire field of over 200 competitors.

“Gordon shot a brilliant match and dominated his division with a combination of both speed and accuracy, the kind of which wins you the title every time,” said Joyce Wilson, executive director of IDPA.

Second place overall in the division went to Brian Stricker who won one stage and took first Master with 167.54 (42). Team RangeLog’s Morgan Allen finished third for second Master with 178.92 (40), followed by Robert Powell, third Master, with 184.14 (62) and David Rowe, who finished first Expert, with 211.36 (63) and one stage win.

Elsewhere in the division, Dillon Rys claimed first Sharpshooter by winning one stage and finishing with 224.10 (78). Ray Duroy, a Sharpshooter within ESP, won the High Distinguished Senior title with a time of 231.11 (38). Scott Zwahr won first Marksman with 257.13 (63) while Michelle Azar took first Novice with 488.50 (187).

Gregg Kratochvil Takes SSR Title At Comp-Tac Republic Of Texas IDPA Championship

HEMPSTEAD, Texas – Gregg Kratochvil claimed the Stock Service Revolver division title this Memorial Day weekend at the Lone Star State’s premier IDPA competition, the Comp-Tac Republic of Texas Championship.

Kratochvil, who earlier this season won the Enhanced Service Revolver title at the 11th Annual West Texas IDPA Regional, topped the division on five of the 10 stages before posting a final time of 252.66 seconds, shooting 35 points down.

“Gregg is one of the great gentlemen of our sport and a fantastic wheelgunner to boot. His win this weekend is just one more example of why Gregg is one of the top-ranked revolver shooters in the America,” said Joyce Wilson, executive director of IDPA.

Taking second place with three stage wins was Garry Newton who finished in 266.40 seconds with 39 points down. Third place went to Jack Davis with two stage wins and first Expert honors with a time of 274.66 (52). Fourth in the division went to the hardest working wheelgunner in the competition, Match Director Darrell Sells, who ended the match with 45 points down in a time of 311.97 seconds. Rounding out the top five was Todd Speck with 327.58 (64).

S&W’s Wheelgun Champ Miculek Wins Comp-Tac Republic Of Texas IDPA Championship

HEMPSTEAD, Texas – Team Smith & Wesson’s Jerry Miculek won the Enhanced Service Revolver division title this Memorial Day weekend at the Lone Star State’s premier IDPA competition, the Comp-Tac Republic of Texas Championship.

Miculek, who is ranked a Distinguished Master in IDPA, but also widely regarded as the world’s greatest revolver shooter, won all but one of the 10 stages on his way to winning the title with a final time of 215.94 with 55 points down.

“There is nothing you can say about Jerry and his skills with a revolver that hasn’t already been said. He never ceases to amaze shooters and his presence on any range is always a welcome sight to his fellow competitors,” said Joyce Wilson, executive director of IDPA.

Placing second behind Miculek was Deon Greenwood, first Expert, with 293.69 (91), followed by Robert Briggs, also an Expert class shooter, with 316.52 (41). Fourth place went to James Ash, first Sharpshooter, with 331.22 (51) while fifth place went to Claude Clark, another Sharpshooter who finished with 410.76 (133).

Duane Hemphill took first Marksman in the ESR division with a time of 418.62 seconds and 50 points down.

Pomerenke Repeats With CDP Win At Comp-Tac Republic Of Texas IDPA Championship

HEMPSTEAD, Texas – Zeb Pomerenke once again took the Custom Defensive Pistol division title at the Lone Star State’s premier IDPA competition, the Comp-Tac Republic of Texas Championship, held this Memorial Day weekend at the ImpactZone Range in Hempstead.

Pomerenke, who won the state title in 2012, took top division honors on three of the 10 stages in this year’s match on his way to claiming the title with a final time of 190.18 seconds and 32 points down. Pomerenke placed eighth overall in the competition. The Master class shooter outpaced his nearest competitor, Steve Jolly, by 22.81 seconds.

“Zeb shot a strong match and with his repeat performance as the Lone Star State’s CDP champ he’s quickly moving up the ranks within the sport,” said Joyce Wilson, executive director of IDPA.

Steve Jolly finished as the first Master with a time of 212.99 and 29 points down. Third overall in the division went to Mark Thompson who won first Expert, winning one stage and finishing with 217.63 (47). Dale Rychlik placed fourth in the division and second Master with one stage win and 220.32 (40), while Johnathon Miller took fifth and second Expert with his time of 222.77 (30).

Elsewhere in the division, Jim Bone claimed first Sharpshooter with 237.97 (60), Andre Toennis took first Marksman with 271.34 (46) and Gleen Baker, a Novice class competitor, finished with 528.76 with 78 points down.
