LOS OSOS, Calif. – Apex Tactical Specialties and 10-8 Performance have teamed up to introduce polymer replacement base pads for owners of the popular Smith & Wesson M&P pistol.

Improving on the original factory version, the Apex 10-8 M&P Base Pad and Retainer Set features a low profile design that dramatically reduces snagging on clothing and while drawing from magazine pouches. Its scalloped front and sides make it easier to grip the seated magazine when removing it from the pistol frame. The heavy-duty polymer construction provides for added durability and the 10 numbered dimples allow for easy identification when working with multiple magazines.

The Apex 10-8 M&P Base Pad incorporates Apex’s patent pending retainer plate design which utilizes a split locking stud that secures the base pad to the magazine and prevents lateral movement and unintentional unlocking that can lead to catastrophic disassembly upon impact.

“The new Apex 10-8 M&P Base Pad and Retainer Set is ideal for the competitive and recreational shooter. Those using their M&P pistol for everyday carry, or on duty, will appreciate both its low profile, snag-free design as well as the durable polymer construction,” explained Scott Folk, vice president at Apex Tactical Specialties.

IDPA Master, former Washington State IDPA Custom Defensive Pistol State Champion, and noted gunwriter Duane Thomas has written Mastering the IDPA Classifier, a book of tips and tricks on how to improve your performance on the IDPA classifier. This is the first and only time an IDPA Master has written a detailed collection of pointers on how to excel at the most varied and comprehensive test of fast gun handling and defensive marksmanship skills available to the normal, self-defense oriented, citizen shooter. Originally presented in serialized form in Dillon Precision Products’ magazine-format catalog, The Blue Press, this content has now been expanded, revised and collected in e-book form.

From Mastering the IDPA Classifier’s Introduction, Thomas says, “The purpose of this book is to share with you the little tips and tricks I have developed, over coming up on two decades of shooting the IDPA classifier. These are the things I see shooters, over and over again, get wrong at the lower skill levels. It’s not that they can’t shoot. It’s not that they don’t have the skill set already in place to be scoring in the next rank above where they will actually, finally wind up placing. Most people are actually much better shooters than they realize. It’s that they don’t know the little tricks that can carve huge chunks of time off any particular string. These are the things IDPA Masters know, that maybe you don’t. However, when you’ve finished reading this book, you will know them, too.”

Mastering the IDPA Classifier, lavishly illustrated with 70 full-color photos, is available as a downloadable e-book for $9.95 through www.Self-Defense-Handguns.com.

HAYDEN, Idaho – Alien Gear Holsters recently announced the launch of their newest product, the “Cloak Tuck 2.0”. This patent pending, Neoprene Composite Holster is Alien Gear Holsters’ most comfortable and stable holster yet. This inside the waistband (IWB) hybrid holster features a light weight design with a soft neoprene body-side layer that forms perfectly to your hip and provides more comfort than you’ve ever felt in a holster.

NEWTOWN, Conn. – The total economic impact of the firearms and ammunition industry in the United States increased from $19.1 billion in 2008 to $37.7 billion in 2013, a 97 percent increase, while the total number of full-time equivalent jobs rose from more than 166,000 to more than 245,000, a 48 percent increase in that five-year period, according to a new report released by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the industry’s trade association.

“We have seen dramatic, unprecedented during peacetime growth in the firearms and ammunition industry that is the direct result of consumer demand for our products in the last five years,” said Stephen L. Sanetti, NSSF president and chief executive officer. “While our nation’s overall economic recovery has been slow since 2008, our industry has been a true bright spot, increasing our direct workforce by nearly half, adding jobs that pay an average of more than $47,700 in wages and benefits. Supplier and induced jobs* were also increased by about half since 2008, even as we increased federal tax payments by 93 percent, Pittman-Robertson excise taxes that support wildlife conservation by 83 percent and state business taxes by 77 percent.”

The Firearms and Ammunition Industry Economic Impact Report: 2013 provides a state by state breakdown of job numbers, wages and output covering direct, supplier and induced employment, as well as federal excise taxes paid. Access the full report here.
