SCENARIO: Several goons attempt to kidnap you, but you were able to evade them by running down an alley and hiding in a nearby dumpster. As you are hiding out you hear the assailants drive up and one of the men is ordered to check the dumpster. As you hear him get close, surprise him and take him out with a headshot, then shoot out the headlights so you can see the remaining goons.

PROCEDURE: Start hiding inside dumpster with lid closed, facing down range, gun at low ready and loaded to division capacity.

At the signal, engage target T1 with one (1) head shot and then engage steel S1- S2 (headlights), until they fall. Then engage targets T2-T6 with three (3) rounds each, in tactical priority (near to far). All shooting and reloads must be performed from cover inside the dumpster.

Republic of Texas Stage 4: The Hurt Locker

SCENARIO: Your Special Forces Squad is sent to an Afghanistan hideout where they believe a terrorist cell is located. While clearing out the bunker, you notice an explosive device on the wall and are tasked with disabling it while your squad covers you. After it is disabled finish clearing out the bunker. Earlier during the mission your AR malfunctioned, so you are forced to resort to your sidearm. Note, there are civilians in the area; civilian casualties should be avoided at all costs.

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1 with both hands holding explosive wires, gun loaded to division capacity and holstered.

At the signal, draw and engage targets T1-T8 and popper PP1 in tactical priority (barricade order) using the walls as cover. All targets require two (2) shots each and all steel must fall. All reloads must be performed behind cover.

Republic of Texas Stage 5: Hung Out To Dry

SCENARIO: While helping your significant other hang some laundry in the back yard, a neighboring gang thinks it is the perfect opportunity to catch you off guard and invade your home. This forces you to take out your boomstick and do some spring cleaning.

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1, facing down range, holding laundry basket off the ground with both hands, gun loaded to division capacity and holstered.

At the signal, draw, and engage targets T1-T2 with two (2) shots to the torso and one (1) shot to each head, while backing (Note: Shooters must engage the torso before engaging the head of the target). From low cover at P2 (at least one knee on the ground) engage targets T6- T8 with two (2) shots each, in tactical priority. Engage targets T3-T5 with two (2) shots each, from cover at P3, in tactical priority (barricade order). All reloads must be performed behind cover. Shooter may go to either position P2 or P3 after engaging targets T1-T2.

Republic of Texas Stage 6: Van Wilder

SCENARIO: After leaving a wild party, you end up passing out in your van instead of attempting to drive home. Unfortunately the party you attended wasn’t in the best neighborhood, and you are awakened by a gang of thugs.

PROCEDURE: Start seated in passenger’s seat of van, hands on knees, both feet inside the van, gun loaded to division capacity. Gun and all ammo placed in center console of van.

At the signal, retrieve your gun, and engage targets T1-T3 and pepper popper PP1 while remaining inside the van. Engage target T4 using the van as cover. Targets T5-T7 must be shot thru the window wall in tactical priority (barricade order). All targets require two (2) shots each and steel must fall.

Republic of Texas Stage 7: Shopping Maul

SCENARIO: You are at your local mall browsing the display of needless junk at one of the kiosks, when several assailants fire off some rounds into the air, appearing to be your standard hold up and robbery. Suddenly one of the men takes the butt of his rifle and starts to beat a shopper to death for no apparent reason at all. At this point you realize you must stop this vicious attack.

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1, hands relaxed at sides, gun loaded to division capacity and holstered.

At the signal, draw and engage target T1. Then engage T2-T3 and pepper popper PP1 from cover, in tactical priority (barricade order) from either side. From P2 engage targets T4-T8 using the walls as cover, in tactical priority (barricade order). All targets require two (2) shots each and steel must fall.

Republic of Texas Stage 8: Chained

SCENARIO: You and your family have been taken hostage. During the process you are hit over the head and knocked out. When you awaken, you find yourself handcuffed to a radiator in an old warehouse. Your family manages to grab a gun and spare ammo from one of the thugs and slides it to you, act quickly in order to save your family.

PROCEDURE: Start either the shooters strong or support hand will be handcuffed at P1, both hands on radiator as specified, gun loaded and placed on ground on the X, with muzzle pointing down range. All ammo to be used is also placed on the ground.

At the signal, retrieve the gun, and engage targets T1-T8 with two (2) shots each, in tactical priority (near to far).

Republic of Texas Stage 9: Texas Hold’em

SCENARIO: You are playing a game of high stakes poker, when three of the players accuse you and another player of cheating and draw weapons. As you are going for your trusty sidearm to return fire, your trigger finger is blown off. After hearing shots fired, a couple of their friends show up and join in the fight.

PROCEDURE: Start seated at P1, holding playing cards with both hands, wrists on edge of table, gun loaded to division capacity and placed on the X on the table. All reloads on shooter’s belt.

At the signal, retrieve your gun with your support hand and engage targets T1-T3 with one (1) round to each torso, then re-engage targets T1-T3 with one (1) round to each head at any time thereafter. Engage targets T4-T5 with three (3) scored shots each. Target T4 must be engaged until the steel popper behind target T4 falls and activates target T5. All targets must be engaged while remaining seated. All shots must be fired support hand only, the shooter may use their strong hand to reload and clear any malfunctions. Note: T5 is not a disappearing target.

Over 100 Shooters Help Kick Off IDPA In New Hampshire

DUNBARTON, N.H. ( May 19, 2013) This past Saturday the Pioneer Sportsmen Club in Dunbarton, N.H. saw a record turnout with over 100 shooters competing in the club’s first match of the 2013 IDPA season.

Thanks to the hard work of organizers Ken Lambert, Dave Mowbray and Rob Lacroix, each seasoned competitors with regional and national experience in International Defensive Pistol Association competition, Saturday’s match not only set a new IDPA record at Pioneer but also attracted 35 shooters new to the sport of defensive shooting.

"When we set about relaunching the IDPA program at Pioneer we were hoping to increase turnout to an average of 60 to 80 shooters a match. Topping 100 shooters at our first event was a great surprise and bodes well for an excellent season ahead,” said Lambert.

The next Pioneer IDPA match is set for Saturday, June 15 with registration beginning at 9:00 am and first shots fired at 10:00 am. The 2013 match schedule will culminate in the much anticipated Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die State IDPA Championship which will be held October 18-19 and serve as the final leg of the brand new King of New England series.

GLC Shooting Academy Sponsors Comp-Tac Republic Of Texas IDPA Championship

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) announced that GLC Shooting Academy, a Texas based shooting school founded by Gordon Carrell and dedicated to improving shooters’ skills for recreation, competition or self-defense, has signed on as a stage sponsor of the 2013 Comp-Tac Republic of Texas IDPA Championship.

GLC Shooting Academy joins ACADEMI, Armadillo Concealment and Comp-Tac Victory Gear, the title sponsor of the match, in supporting the Lone Star State’s premier defensive pistol shooting competition and state championship match.

“Gordon Carrell is one of IDPA’s top, and most respected shooters. He has also given back to the sport, dedicating his time and talents to making IDPA the best it can be. GLC Shooting Academy’s support of the Comp-Tac Republic of Texas IDPA Championship is just one more example of Gordon’s commitment to his fellow shooters,” said Joyce Wilson, executive director of IDPA.

Taking place on Saturday, May 25 on the northwest side of Houston at the Impactzone Range in Hempstead, the sold-out Comp-Tac Republic of Texas IDPA Championship will feature 218 top shooters from throughout Texas, all vying for the championship title in Custom Defensive Pistol, Enhanced Service Pistol, Stock Service Pistol, Stock Service Revolver or Enhanced Service Revolver, the five divisions in IDPA competition.

Republic of Texas Stage 10: In the Weeds

SCENARIO: While on a weekend camping trip, your “youngun” goes off to fetch some more wood. He returns quicker than expected, running towards you with dogs chasing behind him. Turns out you picked the wrong part of the woods to camp in, because directly nearby is a marijuana grow field. The guerrilla guards chase your child back to the camp to eliminate any and all witnesses.

PROCEDURE: Start seated at P1, facing down range with strong hand stoking the fire, support hand on knee, gun loaded to division capacity and holstered.

At the signal, draw, and engage targets T1-T2 and pepper poppers PP1-PP3 (dogs), while remaining seated. Engage target T3 on the move to position P2. From low cover at P2 engage targets T4-T6. All targets require two (2) shots each and steel must fall.
