SCENARIO: You’re having dinner at your favorite restaurant when a gang of thugs enters and attacks the patrons with pipes and baseball bats. It’s up to you to stop them.

PROCEDURE: Start seated with back to chair at P1 with hands on knees. Gun loaded to division capacity and ammo carriers on body.

Engage T1–T7. T3-T7 and S1-S2 are all equal threat. Shooter must stand before drawing and stay at P1. S1 activates T4. S2 activates T6.

SCENARIO: It’s Sunday afternoon and you’re taking a nap when you wake up to the sounds of one of your family members screaming.

PROCEDURE: Start lying on your back. Gun loaded with an empty chamber in the IDPA box on the table. Ammo carriers on the table.

Engage T1 from the prone position. Move to P2 and engage T2 (beam activates T2). Engage T3-T4 from P2, T5 from P3, and T6-T7 through window at P4.

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1, strong hand on mail box, with firearm loaded to division capacity, holstered. Ammo carriers loaded, on body.

Put up flag with strong hand and engage T1-3. Move to doorway and engage T4-6. Engage T7&8 through dog door by shooting the legs out. Falling target is available as soon as leg is shot out.

SCENARIO: You are enjoying a movie with a friend when a group of bad guys enter and start shooting. Push your friend to safety with strong hand and stop the bad guys.

PROCEDURE: Start sitting at P1, hands on knees, back against the back of the chair. Handgun loaded to division capacity. Ammunition carriers stowed on body. Flashlight turned off on body.

Push your friend down to safety and engage T1. Advance to P2 and engage T2-T3. Advance to P3 and engage T4-T5. Flashlight must be kept in-hand. Note: Shooter must stand before draw.

Registration Opens For Inaugural Smith & Wesson IDPA Back Up Gun Nationals

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) announced that open registration for the first ever Smith & Wesson Back Up Gun Nationals will take place tomorrow, Thursday, August 1, starting at noon eastern time.

Based on the small, subcompact pistols and revolvers used for concealed carry and personal defense, the Smith & Wesson IDPA Back Up Gun Nationals will be a fully sanctioned championship consisting of shooting strings utilizing a maximum of five rounds and stages made up of one or more shooting strings with multiple starts allowing competitors to reload off the clock.

The inaugural Smith & Wesson Back Up Gun Nationals will take place November 14-16, 2013, and will be held on the indoor ranges of the Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Competitors will compete in either the Pistol or Revolver division.

The competition is open to any current IDPA member. To register, go to MatchReg.com/BUG starting at noon eastern time on Thursday, August 1. To select a classification, IDPA members should use their highest classification in the three pistol divisions (CDP, ESP, SSP) or the two revolver divisions (ESR, SSR).

An earlier registration period has been offered to a select group of pre-qualified shooters based on their top performance in the 2012 IDPA U.S. National Championship and the 2013 Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship. These pre-qualified slots are not transferable and any slot not taken will be available for the general, open registration which is conducted on a first come, first served basis.
