S&W Indoor Nationals Stage 13: Road Rage

The course of fire preview for the 2013 Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor Nationals starts on Bay 7 with Stage 13. It's called 'Road Rage' and pits the shooter against a fictitious group of gang bangers (represented by 6 IDPA targets) looking to force the car off the road. 'Road Rage' was designed by Aaron Haines of Metro West Tactical and is sponsored by GlockTriggers.com.

CSO: Your CSO for this stage will be Aaron Haines.

SCENARIO: Gang bangers are hell bent on killing you. In the chase they crashed your car and are coming at you for the close-up kill. Take them out.

PROCEDURE: Start seated in the driver's seat. Firearm is loaded to division capacity on the seat, facing down range. Ammunition carriers stowed on the body. Hands on the steering wheel at 10 & 2.

Smash out (push) the windshield of the car with the strong hand. Retrieve your firearm and engage targets T1-T6 through the windshield.

On To Nationals: Preview of Stage 16

Say "Goodfellas" and the whole "You think I'm funny?" bit comes to mind. This ain't that. Stage 16 is called 'Goodfellas, Prelude' where you find yourself in the trunk of a car. This stage was designed by Dean Brevit and sponsored by Grand Power.

CSO: Your CSO for this stage will be Rodrigo Carvajal.

SCENARIO: You have been beaten and tossed into the trunk of an automobile. You awaken and find a weapon in the trunk. Hearing voices outside you know you need to take action.

PROCEDURE: Start lying on your side in trunk of car. Gun, with 5 round magazine and all reloads are in trunk beside you. Gun starts with chamber empty. Strong hand is on trunk release handle.

At signal pull handle, retrieve gun and engage T1-T3 with 2 rounds each. Then engage T4-T5 with 2 rounds each in tactical priority.

Overlooking the fact that nobody uses a pay phone anymore, stage 14 is called 'Hold the Phone!' where you find yourself using...a pay phone. Designed by Frank Glover this is the second stage of the match sponsored by Cheaper Then Dirt!

CSO: Your CSO for this stage will be Dean Brevit.

SCENARIO: You are using the pay phone outside a local museum when “Little Willie’s” gang attacks again.

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1, loaded and holstered facing telephone, holding receiver to ear with strong hand. At signal, HANG UP the phone, turn, draw and engage T1-T3 with 2 rounds each while moving to cover. From cover at P2 engage T4-T7 with 2 rounds each in tactical priority.

Designed by Dean Brevit, this stage is called 'Had A Long Day, Don't Need This.' Here's hoping this isn't your last stage of the day during the competition.

CSO: Your CSO for this stage will be Dean Brevit.

SCENARIO: Just getting home after a long day at work, you discover a home invasion in progress.

PROCEDURE: Start standing beside open door of vehicle at P1. At signal close car door and engage T1-T3 with 3 rounds each in tactical sequence (1-1-3-2-2) while retreating to cover at P2. From P2 engage T4-T5 with 3 rounds each in tactical priority. If needed T1-T3 may be re-engaged from cover at P2.

Not this again.... Stage 12 is called 'Return to the Cemetery of Lost Souls' where you are forced to dig your own grave. Sponsored by Comp-Tac Victory Gear, the stage was designed by Frank Glover.

CSO: Your CSO for this stage will be Daren Kirts.

SCENARIO: Once more you are forced to dig your own grave. You definitely need to start hanging out with a better class of people.

PROCEDURE: Start standing in grave, facing up range, holding shovel in both hands. Gun downloaded to 3 rounds and all reloads in bag. At signal knock down popper with shovel, then retrieve handgun and engage T1 with 2 rounds to the body and then 1 round to the head. Then engage T2-T7 with a minimum of 2 rounds each in tactical priority.

SCENARIO: You are on a camping trip, busy making kindling, when you are suddenly attacked by wild dogs.

PROCEDURE: Start loaded and holstered kneeling, facing up-range with hatchet in strong hand. Hatchet head must be touching wood. At signal turn, throw hatchet at nearest dog then engage T1-T6 with 2 rounds each in tactical sequence (1-1-1-1-1-2-1-1-1-1-1).

SCENARIO: You are just chillin’ in your lawn swing when 3 guys attempt to abduct your child. Handle it.

PROCEDURE: Start lying on your back in the swing (P1). Your loaded gun and all reloads are on table. At signal engage T1-T3 with 3 rounds each in tactical sequence (1-1-3-2- 2), then with 1 round to each head. All shots are to be fired while lying on swing.

Stage 8 is the 'Standards' stage designed by Ron Rhoden and sponsored by Amendment 2 Gear.

CSO: Your CSO for this stage will be Ron Rhoden.

PROCEDURE: Start behind barricade (P1) loaded with 3 rounds only. At signal, engage one of the outside targets around barricade with 3 rounds, emergency reload and engage the other outside target with 3 rounds from opposite side of barricade. Perform a tactical reload and move to next bar- ricade (P2). At P2, engage outside targets with 3 rounds each from both sides of barricade. Move to P3 and engage one of the inside targets with 3 rounds to the head from one side of barricade. Then engage the other inside target with 3 rounds from the other side of barricade. Remember, all reloads begin and end behind cover.

Targets will be scored as follows: 6 rounds anywhere on T1&T4, headshots only on T2&T3.

Called 'No More Peach for Me,' stage 5 presents you with a home invasion that catches you snoozing on the couch. This stage was designed by Tammy Lyne and is sponsored by Remington Arms Company.

CSO: Your CSO for this stage will be Chris Roper.

SCENARIO: You are passed out from drinking too much “peach” when you awake to a home invasion.

PROCEDURE: Start lying on couch, fingers interlaced on chest, loaded gun and reloads on table where indicated. At signal, push over pepper popper, retrieve gun and engage T1 with 6 rounds while seated on couch. Then exit house while engaging T2-T6 in tactical priority with a minimum of 2 rounds each.
