SCENARIO: You arrive home to find three assailants attempting to kidnap your spouse. After dealing with them you hear screaming inside.

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1 hands relaxed at sides. Firearm loaded to division capacity. Ammunition carriers loaded to division capacity on body.

Engage T1-T3 with 2 shots while on the move. T1-T3 may be re-engaged from cover at P2. Engage T4-T6 from P3.

NOTES: T1-T3 move back and forth, pausing behind soft cover at each end.

SCORING: Vickers Count
ROUND COUNT:

NER '14 Stage 5: Hold It!

SCENARIO: A really bad guy jumped you. While trying to fend him off you notice there are others coming and it is time to go for a concealed handgun.

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1, hands relaxed at sides, gun loaded to division capacity, holstered. Ammo carriers on body.

On start signal, with your weak hand push up the “bad guy.” This will expose T1 and T2 and also after a 7 s delay will activate the (slow, ~3s exposure) drop-turner T3. Engage T1-T6. T4-T6 must be engaged only from position of cover P2. T1-T2 are only visible from P1 when the dummy is pushed up. T3 can be engaged from either P1 or P2. T1 and T2 can be re-expose by pushing the dummy up.

SCENARIO: Your van has broken down in a bad neighborhood. Against your advice, your spouse decides to wander away to get better cell reception. Some bad guys stop their car to kidnap your spouse. Ignoring your spouse’s cries for help by pretending to not hear is not an option.

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1. Gun loaded to division capacity on body. Ammo carriers on body.

Using the van as cover, engage T1 – T7 from P1 behind the van. T1-T2 from right side. T3-T7 from left side. Steel behind T1 activates out and back at T4.

SCENARIO: You and your spouse are lost in a bad neighborhood. Against your advice, your spouse decides to stop and ask for directions. You are attacked by a gang who mistakes you for easy prey.

PROCEDURE: Start seated in passenger seat. Gun loaded to division capacity and placed in the open glove compartment. Ammo carriers on body.

Pull down driver, then retrieve gun and engage T1-T4 with 4 rounds each. All shots from passenger seat. T1 is on a delay.

SCENARIO: You're in the middle of showing off your latest dance moves to your friends when the bad guys show up to ruin the party. Move It to safety.

PROCEDURE: Start at P1, firearm loaded to division capacity, holstered, ammunition carriers on body, flashlight turned off and in hand.

Engage T1-T2 either on the move or stationary. Move to P2 and engage T4-T7. Pressure plate activates dropping non-threats. No cover available. Shooter can step on pressure plate at any time.

SCENARIO: You are the night watchman at a warehouse. You are sitting on the loading dock enjoying the night air when trouble comes looking for you.

PROCEDURE: Start seated at P1, hands on knees, back touching back of chair. Firearm loaded, chamber empty, in the box. Ammo carriers on the body. Flashlight is off, placed anywhere.

Retrieve your gun from the box and engage T1-T6 while seated. Then, move to P2 and engage T7-T8. P1 and P2 are cover.

Apex Back As Sponsor Of Smith & Wesson IDPA Back Up Gun Nationals

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Officials with the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) announced that Apex Tactical Specialties has once again signed on as a major sponsor of the Smith & Wesson IDPA Back Up Gun Nationals taking place November 6-8, 2014.

As part of their support Apex will be one of the stage sponsors for the competition. The company will be represented in the match by Team Apex’s Scott and Maddy Folk.

“Last year’s Smith & Wesson Back Up Gun Nationals was one of the best events of the season and we could not wait to be a part of this year’s championship. Apex is proud to continue its support of IDPA and the championships hosted by Smith & Wesson,” said Scott Folk of Apex.

The 2014 Back Up Gun Nationals will be held on the indoor ranges of the company’s Shooting Sports Center. Match officials estimate that 300 top IDPA shooters will be on hand to contest the national title.

Steskla Returns As Match Director For 2014 Smith & Wesson IDPA BUG Nationals

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) and Smith & Wesson announced that Brian Steskla will once again take the reins as Match Director of one of IDPA’s most popular new events – the Smith & Wesson IDPA Back Up Gun Nationals.

“Thanks to Brian’s leadership, and the tireless efforts of his team, last year’s inaugural Back Up Gun Nationals turned out to be one of the most popular matches on the 2013 schedule,” said Joyce Wilson, executive director for IDPA.

“Under Brian’s guidance, and with the incredible commitment from our gracious hosts at Smith & Wesson, the match this year is sure set a new standard for fun and excitement.”

The 2014 Back Up Gun Nationals will be hosted by Smith & Wesson, taking place on the indoor ranges of the company’s Shooting Sports Center. The match is scheduled for November 6-8 and an estimated 300 top IDPA shooters are expected to contest the national title.
