BERRYVILLE, Ark. – The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), a longtime supporter of the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) and the shooting matches hosted by Smith & Wesson, has returned as a major sponsor of the S&W IDPA Indoor Nationals.

Now in its 17th year, the 2014 Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship will take place February 20-22 on the indoor ranges of the Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.

NSSF, which is the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industry, will be the official sponsor of the awards banquet taking place Saturday evening, February 22.

“The National Shooting Sports Foundation has led the industry’s effort to promote and support the shooting sports and IDPA has benefitted greatly from their very generous support,” said Joyce Wilson, executive director for IDPA. “On behalf of IDPA’s 22,000-plus members, and our match host, Smith & Wesson, I want to thank everybody at NSSF for all they do for the shooting sports.”

"IDPA remains one of the fastest-growing shooting sports in America, and NSSF is committed to helping the sport continue its record growth," said Chris Dolnack, NSSF senior vice president and chief marketing officer. "Best of luck to everyone competing at the indoor nationals!"

The Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship represents the official start of IDPA’s competition season and is regarded as one of the finest competitive shooting matches in the country, thanks to help from organizations like NSSF and title sponsor Smith & Wesson.

More than 300 of the sport’s best shooters are expected to compete for titles in Custom Defensive Pistol, Enhanced Service Pistol, Stock Service Pistol, Stock Service Revolver and Enhanced Service Revolver, the five divisions within IDPA.

The Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship is one of the most popular shooting matches in the country, selling out last year in a matter of just minutes. This week the early registration process was announced for the 2014 championship match. Online registration based on priority points will begin at 1:00pm EST and continue throughout the day on Saturday, December 7. General registration will open at 6:00pm EST that same day.

The following is the announcement that was distributed via email this weekend:

2014 Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship
February 20-22, 2013

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE, PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:

As a shooter in at least one of the last 5 years, you are entitled to register early. General registration opens at 6:00pm EST on December 7, 2013.

Priority registration opens on December 7, 2012 as follows:

5 year priority 1:00pm
4 year priority 2:00pm
3 year priority 3:00pm
2 year priority 4:00pm
1 year priority 5:00pm

As a prior competitor over the last five years you are already in the database. You can check your priority, and therefore, your registration time at www.MatchReg.com/SW/reg/priority.htm (please contact me if there are any errors or questions).

You can go to www.MatchReg.com/SW/reg/ at any time to complete your personal info, class, division etc. You enter your IDPA member number EXACTLY as it is listed on the priority list, on the left side of the page. Enter the password “2014match” (without the “) (you should change the password to keep others from changing your data). Complete or correct any info there and click the save “shooter button”.

At any time AFTER your priority registration time begins, you can log back in, click on the “My Squad” link and put yourself into a squad. It is critically important that you exit the program by clicking on the “return to shooter home” link, then exiting the program. Otherwise your squad choice will not be saved and you will lose your slot in the match.

If you keep the squad page open, it may appear that there are slots open when they have been filled. This is because your data does not save until you exit the record. This match fills within minutes; you could lose your slot by not choosing quickly, then exiting the program. You can monitor the squads with this link.

The squad info is date and time stamped. If you choose your squad before your priority time, you will be deleted from the squad (without notice) and may choose from any remaining slots (if available).

You should then IMMEDIATELY mail a check in the amount of $175.00 USD, payable to Smith & Wesson to:

Mike Critser
21 Williams Road
Trumbull, CT 06611

When I receive your check, you will see a “paid” next to your name in the squad list. If I do not receive your check within 14 days, you will be deleted from the match without notice.

Smith & Wesson’s Randi Rogers Wins High Lady At S&W IDPA Back Up Gun Nationals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Randi Rogers, wearing her new Smith & Wesson shooting team jersey, and armed with her new M&P Compact 9mm, continued her amazing win streak in IDPA competition with her High Lady title win at the inaugural Smith & Wesson IDPA Back Up Gun Nationals.

Randi Rogers spent the match shooting side-by-side with friend and Smith & Wesson teammate Julie Golob who returned to competition after the birth of her second daughter earlier this year. The two swapped stage wins back and forth on the first four stages until Rogers settled in, claiming eight more stage wins – two of them overall stage wins in the division.

Rogers finished the match and took the High Lady title with a final time of 212.20 seconds, shooting 98 points down, which placed her sixth Master and seventh overall in the Pistol division, and 11th among all competitors in the championship.

“Randi is hands down IDPA’s top woman shooter and consistently among the top shooters overall. She has not been defeated in IDPA competition in a number of years and her performance this weekend shows why,” said Joyce Wilson, executive director of IDPA.

Second place went to Golob who finished with a time of 261.56 seconds shooting 132 points down. Joyce Wilson took third among the women with 324.76 (103), followed by Judith Szczygiel in fourth with 326.56 (149). Rounding out the top five was Tammy Lyne who scored one stage win and finished with 353.93 (235).

All five women competed in the Pistol division.

Revolver King Jerry Miculek Tops Field At S&W IDPA Back Up Gun Nationals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Going into the inaugural Smith & Wesson IDPA Back Up Gun Nationals one question sat on everyone’s mind: could a revolver shooter – namely Jerry Miculek – beat everybody? That question was definitively answered Saturday evening when Team Smith & Wesson’s great revolver shooter won the Revolver division title with the fastest overall time in the competition.

Miculek’s final time of 166.50 seconds (with 43 points down) outpaced the Pistol division champion, Mike Seeklander, by 3.69 seconds. Miculek won all but one of the 13 stages in the division, and topped the entire field on six stages. In addition to winning the Revolver title, Miculek won High Industry honors in the division and was the high overall senior.

“Jerry is simply amazing to watch, often taking more time to retrieve his revolver from its start position on a stage than putting the required five rounds on target. His incredible performance, not to mention four of the top 10 times coming from wheelgunners, demonstrates that in defensive applications, the revolver can go toe-to-toe with a pistol,” said Joyce Wilson, executive director of IDPA.

Finishing second behind Miculek was Kirk Crego whose 198.93 seconds with 40 points down put him fifth overall in the match. Team Smith & Wesson’s other top wheelgunner, Josh Lentz, took third in the division, and sixth overall, with 202.84 (59). Joe Linskey, shooting for Wolff Gunsprings/TDS, placed fourth in the division and 10th overall with 209.42 (33). Rounding out the top five was Simon Golob who finished first Master with 231.68 (76).

Elsewhere in the division, Kristofer Sines took first Expert with 249.49 (70). Michael French claimed first Sharpshooter with 254.91 (60), while Chad McLean went home with first Marksman with 274.42 (57). Paul Chamberlain, competing as a Sharpshooter, claimed High Distinguished Senior honors with 311.27 (119), and Christian Sauer won first Novice with 384.98 (136).

Mike Seeklander Wins Pistol Title At S&W IDPA Back Up Gun Nationals

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Despite wearing a wireless microphone and having a video camera in his face for most of the match, Team Armscor’s Mike Seeklander captured the Pistol division title at the inaugural Smith & Wesson IDPA Back Up Gun Nationals.

Seeklander, who was taping a future episode of the Outdoor Channel’s Shooting Gallery television show, won three stages before posting a final time of 170.19 seconds with 37 points down. His was the second fastest overall time behind that of Team Smith & Wesson’s Jerry Miculek, the Revolver division champion.

“With Mike pulling double duty during the match, both competing and filming, nobody was sure where exactly he’d finish. Then when his final times were posted, talk began that he might just win the match, and sure enough he did,” said Joyce Wilson, executive director of IDPA.

“Mike is great shooter and so well liked among his fellow competitors that seeing him win the inaugural Smith & Wesson Back Up Gun Nationals made a lot of IDPA members happy.”

Taking second behind Seeklender was Team Panteao’s Dave Harrington, who not only finished first Master with 193.82 (30) but also won one stage and took High Industry for the division. Dylan Kenneson, representing the Sig Sauer Academy, was recognized as the match’s most accurate, shooting just 17 points down while finishing third in the division as the second Master with 195.14. Team HK’s Jason Koon picked up third Master with 203.79 (86) while James Meyers won two stages and claimed both fourth Master and High Law Enforcement with 204.46 (44).

Elsewhere in the division, IDPA’s top lady shooter, and the newest member of Team Smith & Wesson, Randi Rogers won two stages and claimed the High Lady title with her final time of 212.20 seconds, shooting 98 points down. Greg Snyder, competing as a Master, took High Military Veteran with 219.91 (65). The U.S. Coast Guard’s Chad Barber, competing as an Expert, won High Military with 261.38 (141). Clark Coneby, a Sharpshooter, won High Junior with 264.95 (76). Tim Arnold won first Expert with 236.82 (55). Pasquile Vitetta, Jr. took first Sharpshooter with 259.96 (84), while Justin Fitch finished first Marksman with 298.09 (99) and Bill Henderson took home first Novice with 415.85 (206).
