Stettmeier Dominates ESP At Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – With nine of 13 stage wins, including posting the fastest overall time on eight of them, Ed Stettmeier dominated the Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die State IDPA Championship to win the Enhanced Service Pistol title.

Stettmeier, a Master level shooter, finished the match with a final time of 215.68 seconds with 38 points down. In addition to earning the ESP title he also collected High Industry honors.

“Ed’s was the standout performance of the match and he made what was a difficult course of fire for most look easy,” said Ken Lambert, match director for the Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die.

Second place and first Master went to Team Panteao’s Tom Yost who won one stage before posting a final time of 258.82 (49). Yost captured High Senior as well as the ESP title in the King of New England series.

Third place in the match went to Joe Linskey of team Wolff Gunsprings/Tactical Defense Solutions who also won one stage finishing in 264.10 seconds. Linskey’s 26 points down earned him the match’s Most Accurate title. He also picked up the High Law Enforcement title.

Rounding out the top five were David Girardin with two stage wins and a final time of 266.31 (115), followed by Nick Bedio who finished first Expert with 281.56 (68).

Elsewhere in the division, Terrance Robertson, an ESP Master, won High Distinguished Senior with 308.85 (110). Lance Boehlke finished first Sharpshooter with 352.82 (108). The U.S. Coast Guard’s Chad Barber took home High Military honors with 413.18 (79) competing as a Sharpshooter. Pasquile Vitetta Jr. finished first Marksman with 442.25 (123). Sandy Lincoln, the division’s only Novice, finished with 929.97 (360).

Lacroix Takes SSP Title At Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die IDPA Championship

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Rob Lacroix outpaced Dave Dolio by just 1.01 seconds to claim the Stock Service Pistol division title this past weekend at the Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die State IDPA Championship.

Lacroix, who is a Master in the division, won four of the 13 stages and finished with a final time of 280.78 seconds with 86 points down. Dolio won six stages before finishing first Master with 281.79 (83). His second place finish also gave Dolio the win in the King of New England series.

“The SSP battle was a tight match up at the Live Free Or Die, with Rob narrowly holding off Dave to take the title. ON behalf of everybody at the Pioneer Sportsmen Club I want to congratulate Rob on a job well done,” said Ken Lambert, match director for the Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die.

Rounding out the top five were Brian Steskla in third with 286.65 (57), Mason Lane, first Expert and High Junior winner, in fourth with 316.67 (72), and Lee Adams, who took home High Military Veteran with his final time of 329.48 (106).

Elsewhere in the division, Albert Chin took first Sharpshooter with 366.31 (128). Tara Lyon added to her list of IDPA accomplishments this season with both the High Lady, 491.65 (151), and the Queen of New England titles. Daniel Veiner finished first Marksman with 493.79 (164). High International went to Jaime Carmichael of Nova Scotia with 534.42 (97), and Ralph Berrett placed first Novice with 686.45 (277).

Colt’s Mark Redl Wins Live Free Or Die CDP, King of New England Titles

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Team Colt’s Mark Redl took home top honors at the 2013 Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die State IDPA Championship, winning both the Custom Defensive Pistol and the King of New England titles.

After his main challenger, Craig Buckland of team Wolff Gunsprings/Tactical Defense Solutions, suffered an ammunition failure at the chronograph resulting in a match disqualification for equipment, Redl outpaced his nearest competitor by 5.35 seconds to take the Live Free Or Die title.

In the King of New England series presented by Apex Tactical Specialties, Redl easily claimed the CDP portion of the series by more than 19 seconds.

The King of New England series recognizes the top shooters competing in the Massachusetts State Championship, the New England Regional and the Live Free Or Die, with the title going to the competitor with the top cumulative score, in their division, from four pre-selected stages from each of the three championships.

“Congratulations to Mark on both his Live Free Or Die CDP win and for taking the 2013 King of New England CDP title,” said Ken Lambert, match director for the Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die.

Redl finished the match with five stage wins and a final time of 305.16 seconds with 98 points down. Second pace went to Bob Biehl, first Expert, with 310.51 (51). Biehl also finished second in the King of New England series with 345.33 to Redl’s 325.91.

Third place went to the first Master, Andrew Marocchini, with 315.50 (57). Aaron Haines finished fourth with 325.36 (98) while Matt Holmes placed fifth with 330.37 (103).

Elsewhere in the division, Kevin Wagner won first Sharpshooter with 403.94 (114). Cristian Arcilla finished first Marksman with 458.34 (166), and Heather Kies took first Novice with 698.03 (244).

Gelberger’s Live Free Or Die ESR Win Crowns Him King of New England

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – One of New England’s top wheelgunners, Gene Gelberger, took home his third major title with his Enhanced Service Revolver division win this past weekend at the Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die State IDPA Championship, and in doing so claimed the added title of King of New England.

Gelberger, a Master level shooter within the division, captured the ESR title after winning eight of the 13 stages and posting a final time of 391.34 seconds with 131 points down. Earlier this season Gelberger won the ESR title at both the 17th Annual Massachusetts State Championship and the New England Regional, which were also sponsored by Smith & Wesson.

“Gene has gone three for three in New England’s major matches this season. Whether as a competitor or working as staff, Gene’s a fixture at area IDPA matches to the point that it wouldn’t be a revolver competition without him there,” said Ken Lambert, match director for the Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die.

Finishing second just 5.32 seconds behind Gelberger was Bill Richards who placed second with five stage wins and a final time of 396.34 (191). Jerry Richard took third with 478.81 (110).

In addition to winning the Live Free Or Die ESR title, Gelberger’s victory locked up his run on the Enhanced Service Revolver portion of the King of New England series. Presented by Apex Tactical Specialties, the King of New England recognizes the top shooters competing in the Massachusetts State Championship, the New England Regional and the Live Free Or Die.

The King of New England title goes to the competitor with the top cumulative score, in their division, made up from four pre-selected stages from each of the three championships. Gelberer finished the series with a final time of 420.61 seconds across the 12 stage course of fire.

Doti Edges Out Klassanos To Win Live Free Or Die SSR, King of New England Titles

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – With just 0.42 seconds separating the two, Dennis Doti edged out Chris Klassanos in the battle for the Stock Service Revolver title at the Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die State IDPA Championship.

The SSR competition came down the 13th and final stage of the match. After 12 stages Wil Cournoyer led with 362.72, followed by Doti with 373.67 and Klassanos with 376.19. Cournoyer also held the lead over Doti in the Kind of New England series, setting up the final stage, the fourth King of New England stage at the Live Free Or Die, as the determining stage in both contests.

Presented by Apex Tactical Specialties, the King of New England series recognizes the top shooters competing in the Massachusetts State Championship, the New England Regional and the Live Free Or Die, with the title going to the competitor with the top cumulative score, in their division, from four pre-selected stages from each of the three championships.

Klassanos won stage 13 with 46.41 and 9 points down, picking up 2.1 seconds on Doti who finished with 48.51 (7), though not enough for Klassanos to overtake him. With both titles on the line, Cournoyer had a disastrous stage finishing with 82.34 and giving up 33.83 seconds to Doti, along with both titles.

“The Stock Service Revolver contest was the closest of the championship, and with both the match and the King of New England titles on the line on the final stage, it provided for the most dramatic finish of the weekend,” said Ken Lambert, match director for the Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die.

With the help of two stage wins, Doti won the SSR title with a final time of 422.18 seconds and 67 points down. Klassanos, who won five of the 13 stages, took second with 422.60 (143) followed by Cournoyer with three stage wins and a final time of 445.06 (75). Rounding out the top five were Chris DeForge who scored one stage win before finishing with 463.76 (100), and Greg Hayes with two stage wins and a time of 474.24 (114).

SCENARIO: You are playing poker with some unsavory characters. You have a winning hand. With no cash left, you use your pistol as collateral.

PROCEDURE: Start with gun loaded and placed on either side of the basket. While seated, weak hand on basket. Strong hand on table. Ammo carriers on body to division capacity.

At the signal, engage T1-T6 with at least 2 rounds. NOTE: Must stay seated in chair. Pulling basket activates both drop turners. T3 and T4 are more than 2 yards from T1.

PROCEDURE: Start holding ax in both hands squared to the log pile. Gun holstered and loaded with only six rounds. Ammo carriers on body.

At the signal, while moving to P2 engage T1-3. At P2 engage the remaining targets. NOTE: Ax activates clamshell at T1. There is no cover at P1. PP1 activates T4, PP2 activates T7. P2 will be a pile of logs.

SCENARIO: Work, Politics, Taxes enough is enough! You sell all your worldly possessions and buy land in the middle of Dunbarton and build a new cabin. While sitting on the porch in your rocking chair sipping your moonshine and marveling at your new creation, you are suddenly attacked by your new neighbors!

PROCEDURE: Start rocking in the rocking chair at P1, moonshine in your strong hand. Gun loaded to division capacity, ammo carriers on body.

At the signal, engage targets through available ports and left side of wall. NOTE: Visual barriers will be used to force shots from appropriate positions. T5 + T6 will have painted hard cover.
