IDPA Previews 17th Annual Massachusetts IDPA Championship Course Of Fire

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Organizers of the 17th Annual Massachusetts State IDPA Championship, presented by Smith & Wesson, are previewing all 10 stages of the course of fire competitors will face this weekend.

IDPA members and others interested in the scenarios and stage designs featured in this year’s match, as well as those from past matches, should visit IDPA’s DOWN ZERO blog.

Sanctioned by the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA), the Massachusetts State IDPA Championship will take place Saturday and Sunday, June 1-2, at the Rob & Gun Club of New Bedford located in North Dartmouth.

In addition to determining the state champion in each of IDPA’s five handgun competition divisions, the match also serves as the first leg of the newly established King of New England, which is being presented by Apex Tactical Specialties.

Four stages from each of three major New England championships, starting with the Massachusetts State Championship, will make up the 12 stage challenge. To kick off the King of New England, John Catterall, match director of the Massachusetts State match, has selected the following stages as the Massachusetts State Championship portion of the series:

Stage 1 - Hallway Clearance
Stage 4 - Shrimp Mozambique
Stage 7 - Deep in the Heart of Texas
Stage 8 - Reload Skill Drill: Fast or Slow?
Stage 9 - Easy As 1-2-3 (alternate)

SCENARIO: Three halls, a bunch of bad guys… That was easy!

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1, firearm loaded to division capacity and holstered. Ammunition carriers loaded to division capacity and stowed per IDPA rules. Hands relaxed at sides.

Engage T1-T3 while retreating to cover. If necessary, T1-T3 may be re-engaged from behind cover. Engage remaining targets as they become visible. T5 and T7 have non-scoring poppers behind them that activate moving targets. Both steel activators must fall.

Massachusetts State Stage 8: Reload Skill Drill: Fast or Slow?

SCENARIO: Am I better off slowing down to make good hits? Or, do I burn this house down!

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1, firearm loaded to division capacity and holstered. Ammunition carriers loaded to division capacity and stowed per IDPA rules. Hands relaxed at sides.

Engage T1 to T3 from either side of the barricade with two rounds each; change to the opposite side of the barricade and re-engage T1-T3 with two rounds each. Advance to the barrel and re-engage T1-T3 with two rounds each from low cover from either side of the barrel. Shooters must execute one slide-lock (emergency) reload and one tactical reload from behind the barricade before advancing to the barrel.

SCENARIO: Everyone is in disarray… will you be when you get deep in the heart of Texas?

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1, firearm loaded to division capacity and holstered. Ammunition carriers loaded to division capacity and stowed per IDPA rules. Hands relaxed at sides.

Begin at P1 and engage T1-T18 with one shot each – all shots while on the move while remaining behind caution tape.

SCENARIO: You are waiting in line to get into your favorite restaurant for your favorite treat. Your dinner plans are interrupted.

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1, firearm loaded to division capacity and holstered. Ammunition carriers loaded to division capacity and stowed per IDPA rules. Hands relaxed at sides.

Engage array T1 to T3 while standing at P1 with three rounds each, two to the body and one to the head. Move to P2 and engage remaining paper targets with three rounds each, anywhere on the target. Pepper poppers activate moving targets so they must fall.

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1, centered on wall, firearm loaded to division capacity and holstered. Ammunition carriers loaded to division capacity and stowed per IDPA rules. Hands relaxed at sides.

Engage targets as they become visible. Shooter must step on the pressure pad and activate moving target T5 when leaving the wall at P1.

Apex Tactical Presents King of New England IDPA Series

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Apex Tactical Specialties has been named the presenting sponsor of the International Defensive Pistol Association’s (IDPA) new King of New England series, a three event concurrent competition taking place this season.

The King of New England, presented by Apex Tactical Specialties, will feature four stages from each of New England’s three biggest IDPA competitions. The King of New England title will be awarded in each of the five IDPA divisions and is based on the best combined score from the 12 selected King of New England stages. Smith & Wesson Named Title Sponsor Of Live Free Or Die State IDPA Championship

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Organizers of New Hampshire’s IDPA championship announced that iconic American firearms maker Smith & Wesson will be the title sponsor of the Granite State’s 2013 state match. The Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die State IDPA Championship is scheduled to take place October 18-19.

The championship will be hosted by the Pioneer Sportsmen Club in Dunbarton, N.H. In addition to determining the state title, the match will also serve as the final leg of the King of New England contest. The 17th Annual Massachusetts State Championship and the New England Regional, both sponsored by Smith & Wesson, make up the first and second legs, respectively, of the newly announced series.

Registration Opens May 1 For 2013 S&W New England Regional IDPA Championship

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – The MetroWest Tactical IDPA club announced that registration for the 2013 Smith & Wesson New England Regional IDPA Championship will open at noon on Wednesday, May 1.

Registration will be handled online at MatchReg.com and the entry fee for this year’s championship will be $95.00.

The Smith & Wesson New England Regional IDPA Championship will take place August 16-18 at the Harvard Sportsmen's Club in Harvard, Massachusetts. In addition to being among the region’s largest defensive pistol shooting competitions, the match will also serve as the second leg of the newly announced King of New England event.

The championship will be shot as a single day format and feature 14 stages, 12 outdoor and two indoor for low-light scenarios, with a minimum round count of 205.
