Registration Open As California State IDPA Championship Returns to Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Following on the success of last year’s state championship, Sacramento Defensive Pistol Shooters (www.sdps-idpa.org) will again host the California State IDPA Championship which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 4, 2014.

Held at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center (www.sacvalley.org), this fully sanctioned Tier 3 championship event will consist of 11 stages and is limited to 175 total competitors holding a current IDPA classification of Marksman or higher. Registration for the 2014 California State IDPA Championship is currently open to competitors, as well for those seeking to work the match as staff.

The state’s top shooters will compete for the five IDPA division titles as well as Most Accurate, High Lady, High Junior, High Senior, High Distinguished Senior, High Industry, High Press, High International, High Military and High Law Enforcement honors. In addition to trophies, prizes will be awarded by a random draw open to all competitors.

Ideally located in the heart of central California, the setting for the 2014 California State IDPA Championship is just a few hours from several popular Golden State destinations including the California wine country, the Sierra Nevada Mountains and, of course, Lake Tahoe. Shooters are encouraged to take advantage of their time in the area to extend their stay and visit these tourist destinations.

IDPA members looking to compete in the match should register early as slots are sure to fill up fast for this premier defensive pistol match. SCENARIO: This is an IDPA drill, testing shooters accuracy out to 30 yards!

PROCEDURE: Start seated at P1, hands flat on knees. Shooters gun is loaded to division capacity, placed on marked location on table. All reloads staged on table.

At signal, retrieve pistol and engage T1-T6 with 2 shots each WHILE SEATED.

California State Championship '13 Stage 10: Time To Strip

SCENARIO: You were in the middle of cleaning your toys when confronted by PCP-influenced home invaders. Get your act, and your gun, together!

PROCEDURE:  Starting seated at P1, empty gun on marked position on table, shooter holding can of solvent and cleaning patch/brush. Magazines are loaded to division capacity and staged at P2.

At signal, drop cleaning supplies, retrieve empty pistol, and move to P2. At P2, engage T1-T4 and S1-S3 in any order.

California State Championship '13 Stage 9: On the Throne in Zombieland

SCENARIO: You have just finished saving your friends from the zombies. Your intestinal issues have worsened with all the action. You urgently take your precious TP to the only stall left… the one with NO door. You are still a little jumpy, so you place your pistol where you can get at it fast. Just as you think all is well, trying to enjoy the “little things”, two rather robust zombies try to make a snack of you at your most vulnerable moment. You try the “Double-Tap” but they won’t go down… time for headshots!

PROCEDURE: Start seated upright on toilet, hands flat on knees. Pistol is loaded to division capacity, placed on shelf.

At start signal, retrieve pistol and engage T1 & T2 in Tactical Sequence, and then engage each target with one head shot each.

California State Championship '13 Stage 8: Rule Number 3

SCENARIO: Life is tough in Zombieland. You and your companions have been searching the land for a Zombie free zone. Fresh meat is hard to come by, so you didn’t think twice about eating the “Chile con Gatos” the night before. Now it’s coming back to haunt you! You’ve found a bathroom, and you all urgently need to make immediate use of the facilities. Clear the bathroom and save your friends! Remember Zombieland Rule #3… Beware of Bathrooms… and don’t forget your TP!

PROCEDURE: Starting at P1, standing outside of wall, heels even with front of wall, TP held in BOTH HANDS at chest level, gun loaded to division capacity.

On start signal, drop TP, then draw and engage T1-T6 and PP1 & PP2 in tactical priority on your way to P2. Perform IDPA legal reloads as required.

Note: Doors open automatically for each shooter once latch is opened. Door on bathroom stall #2 activates T4 disappear-ing pop-up target. NO FTN’s are penalized on this target.

Shooters need to be mindful of their muzzle direction and the possibility of sweeping themselves on this stage, resulting in a match DQ.

SCENARIO: You’ve been jumped by a bunch of bad guys…. Need I say more?

PROCEDURE: Standing at P1, gun loaded to division capacity, holstered. Shooter is holding briefcases.

At signal, drop the briefcases, and engage T1-T3 in tactical sequence with 2 rounds each, while retreating to P2. Engage remaining targets T4-T6 and PP1 & PP2 in tactical priority. IDPA legal reloads as required.

SCENARIO: After getting off your boat safely despite the attack of three armed wannabe pirates, you try to make your way to safety when you come across their shore crew! Note: All reloads must conform to IDPA rules.

PROCEDURE: Starting at P1 hands at side with gun at division capacity and holstered.

On the signal the shooter will draw and engage T1 – T3 from the dock while moving toward cover. Once at cover at P2, engage T4 – T6.

SCENARIO: As you pull up to the dock some smugglers want to take over your boat.

PROCEDURE: Starting sitting in center of boat seat hands on knees, with gun at division capacity and holstered.

On the signal the shooter will draw and engage T1 – T3 while remaining seated in boat.

NOTE: After shooter is finished shooting, at the instruction of the SO, shooter is to stand, perform a tactical or retention reload, re-holster and move to P1 of Stage 6 Pier Hell.

SCENARIO: You are out shopping at the local market when armed gang members storm the market. Fight your way to the rear of the market to exit.

PROCEDURE: Start standing facing left at P1, gun loaded to division capacity.

At signal, turn, draw and engage T1 & T2 while using avail-able cover. Next engage T3 while moving to P2. Grab a flashlight be-fore entering the dark freezer, use the flash-light while engaging T4-T6. Next move to the exit, engaging T7 & T8 from P3. The flashlight must be retained by the shooter throughout the course of fire after picking it up.

California State Championship '13 Stage 3: They’re In The House!

SCENARIO: You live in the country and have come home early from a weekend trip and the kids have thrown a party. Unknowingly some of the ‘guests’ invited are gang members and the rest of the gang has decided to crash the party with ill intentions. You hear screams and rough language. You’ve dialed 911 but, knowing that help is many, many minutes away, and with a group coming out to confront you; you realize it is up to you to defend your kids, their actual friends, and yourself.

PROCEDURE: Starting at P1, gun loaded to division capacity, holstered. Cell phone in strong hand up to ear, support hand relaxed at side.

At the signal drop the phone, draw, and then engage PP1 – PP3 (activating T1-T3) while on the move to P2. Shooters may re-engage steel from cover at P2. Next engage T1-T3 in tactical priority from cover at P2. Move to P3 and engage T4-T5 through the window and THEN move to P4. lastly, engage T6-T7 from cover at P4.
