SCENARIO: You stop by to pick up your buddy at his apartment in a rather shady area of town. You find yourself in the middle of a drug deal gone bad and the drug dealers are shooting at anyone standing. Some have automatic rifles and you only have a handgun and a fire extinguisher. Shoot the fire extinguisher to cause an explosion and hopefully even the odds. Well....it worked for John McClain in Live Free or Die Hard.

PROCEDURE: Start at P1 firearm loaded to division capacity, holstered, and magazines or speedloaders stowed in ammo carriers on belt. Shooter hands placed on the marks on the wall by the elevator.

On the signal, from P1 engage S1, T1, T2 & T3). Advance to P2 and engage T4. Then move to P3 and while kneeling and using the refrigerator and doorway for cover, engage T5 & T6.

SCENARIO: You are taking your pig for a walk among the shipping containers when suddenly you are accosted by highly skilled mafia drug lords. Defend yourself much like they did in the freight yard scene from the movie RED!

PROCEDURE: Start at P1, with pig under weak arm, strong hand in surrender position, firearm loaded to division capacity, holstered, and magazines or speedloaders stowed in ammo carriers on belt.

Drop pig and engage T1-T3 while retreating to P2. At P2 engage T4. Advance to P3 and engage S1, T5, T6 & T7.

SCENARIO: While Spelunking in an old gold mine looking for treasure, bandits attack. Cross the raging river on the rickety bridge while protecting your fellow treasure searchers and rescue your friend captured as a hostage. Much like Indiana Jones did in Solomon’s mine in the movie “Temple of Doom!”

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1, holding a gold nugget with firearm loaded to division capacity, holstered, and magazines or speedloaders stowed in ammo carriers on belt.

On the signal, drop the gold nugget and engage T1 thru T3 free style, while crossing the rickety bridge. Move to P2 and using cover, engage S1, T-4, T-5, T6 & T7. (S1 activates the mining cart.)

Live Free Or Die Stage 1: Unforgiven – “Clear the Cantina”

SCENARIO: In an unfamiliar part of town, you enter an establishment for food and drink, only to find you are not welcomed. Profanity and threats are thrown at you and the mob descends on you. Defend yourself, much like Clint Eastwood did in the movie, “Unforgiven.”

PROCEDURE: Start at P1, both hands placed on the X’s on the saloon doors, firearm loaded to division capacity, holstered, and magazines or speedloaders stowed in ammo carriers on belt.

On the signal, enter the cantina advancing towards P2, draw and engage T1-T3 in the open. Then, advance to P3 and engage T4-T6 in tactical priority, using the piano as cover.

King of New England Stages Announced For 2014 Live Free Or Die

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Organizers of the Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die State IDPA Championship, taking place October 17, 18 and 19, announced the four stages that will make up the final leg of this year’s Apex King of New England series.

The Live Free Or Die State IDPA Championship is the final leg of a three match King of New England series which is once again presented by Apex Tactical Specialties. The three event concurrent competition features four (4) stages from each of New England’s biggest IDPA matches.

“The Live Free Or Die is pleased to once again serve as the final match in the popular King of New England series,” said Jon Wolfe, match director for the championship which will be hosted by the Pioneer Sportsmen Club in Dunbarton, N.H.

The stages counting towards the 2014 King of New England title will be:

Stage 1 – Unforgiven
Stage 5 – Temple of Doom
Stage 7 – Live Free Or Die Hard
Stage 10 – Inception

IDPA Previews Smith & Wesson New England Regional Course Of Fire

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Starting with the King of New England stages, organizers of the 2014 Smith & Wesson New England Regional IDPA Championship are previewing all 14 stages of the course of fire competitors will face at this year’s championship.

Taking place the weekend of August 15-17, the 2014 Smith & Wesson New England Regional IDPA Championship is again being hosted by the MetroWest Tactical IDPA club at the Harvard Sportsmen’s Club in Massachusetts.

In addition to determining the regional champion in each of IDPA’s five handgun competition divisions, the match also serves as the second leg of the popular King of New England series, which is being presented by Apex Tactical Specialties. In June the 18th Annual Massachusetts State IDPA Championship, presented by Smith & Wesson, kicked off the series which concludes with New Hampshire’s Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die State IDPA Championship in October.

Four stages from each of the three major New England championships make up the 12 stage challenge. The following stages represent the New England Regional Championship’s portion of the King of New England:

Stage 1 - Graveyard Shift at the Warehouse

Stage 7 - Trouble in Iquitos 1

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Officials with the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) announced that Apex Tactical Specialties has once again signed on as a major sponsor of the Smith & Wesson IDPA Back Up Gun Nationals taking place November 6-8, 2014.

As part of their support Apex will be one of the stage sponsors for the competition. The company will be represented in the match by Team Apex’s Scott and Maddy Folk.

Registration Opens Today For S&W Live Free Or Die State IDPA Match

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Online registration for the 2014 Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die State IDPA Championship opens today, Monday, July 21, at noon eastern time at www.MatchReg.com.

Hosted again by the Pioneer Sportsmen Club in Dunbarton, New Hampshire, last year’s Live Free Or Die sold out in record time. Match officials expect another sell out this year and encourage IDPA members to register as early as possible once online registration goes live at noon. The match will take place October 17-19, 2014.

In addition to determining the state title, the Smith & Wesson Live Free Or Die will also serve as the final leg of the popular King of New England contest presented by Apex Tactical Specialties. The 18th Annual Massachusetts State Championship and the New England Regional, both also sponsored by Smith & Wesson, make up the first and second legs, respectively, of the series.
