IDPA Previews Stages From This Weekend’s Puerto Rico IDPA Nationals

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Shooters from Costa Rica, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the United States and Venezuela with go head-to-head for the Puerto Rico IDPA National Championship title this weekend, and the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) is giving you a look at the 12 stage course of fire they’ll face.

Diagrams of all 12 stages of the championship, along with their scenarios and the instructions shooters will receive, are posted on IDPA’s DOWN ZERO Blog. Stages for this and other matches can be found on the blog under Stage Diagrams.

The 2013 Puerto Rico IDPA National Championship takes place in Caguas, Puerto Rico on Saturday and Sunday, March 16 and 17. The RL Shooting Club is hosting the championship which was organized by match director Max Rivera and assistant match director Tom Yost of Smith & Wesson, one of the major match sponsors.

Over 150 shooters are expected to compete for the title in Custom Defensive Pistol, Enhanced Service Pistol, Stock Service Pistol, Stock Service Revolver and Enhanced Service Revolver, the five divisions within IDPA.

The Puerto Rico IDPA Nationals have received significant support from the shooting sports industry. The championship is being sponsored by Blade-Tech, Century International Arms, Comp-Tac Victory Gear, Fiocchi Ammunition, Fobus Holsters & Pouches, Safariland, Smith & Wesson and Uncle Mike’s Law Enforcement.

Puerto Rico Nationals Stage 12: Strong Hand...Weak Hand

SCENARIO: This is a standard strong hand/weak hand exercise.

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1 with firearm loaded with six rounds and holstered. Hands are to be at your sides in a relaxed position.

At signal engage using strong hand only T1-T3 with two shoots. Reload, change to weak hand and engage all targets with two shoots.

Puerto Rico Nationals Stage 11: Shopping Mall Robbery

SCENARIO: You leave your car in the Valet Parking area to enter the Mall. At the main entrance there are armed robbers waiting for you. You have no other choice but to defend yourself as you see them.

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1 with firearm loaded to division capacity and hands relaxed at your sides.

At signal with your week hand close the door, engage T1-T2 in tactical sequence(1-2-1) while moving from P1 to P2. At P2 engage T3-T5 with two shoots and move to P3. At P3 engage T6-T7 with at least one knee on the ground. You must hit the metal leg of target first, to see T6- T7. Then hit T6-T7 with two shoots each in tactical priority.

Puerto Rico Nationals Stage 10: Inside the Bank

SCENARIO: While making a bank transaction a group of criminals arrive. You have to fight them to save your life as well as the lives of the customers and employees.

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1 with firearm loaded to division capacity and hands relaxed at your sides.

At signal push PP1 with strong hand, turn and engage while moving to P2, T1-T2 with two shoots each. In P2 engage T3- T5 with two shoots each. Then move to P3 to engage T6 with two shoots, PP2 until it falls and T7 with two shoots.

SCENARIO: Walking toward your car you are trapped by furious dogs and a crossfire of two drug gangs.

PROCEDURE: Start standing at P1 with firearm loaded to division capacity and holstered. Hands are to be relaxed and at your sides.

From P1 engage PP1-PP4 until it falls. Move to P2 and engage T1-T4 with two shoots each using cover. Then move to P3 and engage T5-T7 with two shoots each using cover.

SCENARIO: You arrive at your sister’s house. When you enter the garage you are surprised by a gang of criminals with brave dogs. You have no other choice to defend your sister and family.

PROCEDURE: Start with your firearm loaded to division capacity and holstered, and your hands relaxed at your sides.

At signal engage T1-T2 with two shoots each. Then, turn engage T3 and move to P2. At P2 engage T4-T5 and move to P3 to engage S1-S2, T6- S3 y T7. S1-S3 must be engage until it falls.

At signal engage with one shot T1 – T5. Reload and engage with two rounds T5 – T1.

Puerto Rico Nationals Stage 5: Ready

SCENARIO: You have just returned home from an IDPA practice when you hear your kids screaming as a gang breaks into your house.

PROCEDURE: Start seated at table, hands on Xs. Unloaded gun with all magazines in the range bag.

At signal retrieve your gun and magazines from the range bag. Load your gun and go to P1. At P1 engage T1-T2 with two shots, PP1 until it falls and move to P2. At P2 engage T3-T4 with two shoots, PP2–PP3 until it falls and move to P3. At P3 engage T5 - T6 with two shoots. Tactical priority and cover must be used for all shots.
