BERRYVILLE, Ark. – Smith & Wesson, the 160-year-old American firearms maker and host of the 2013 Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship, and the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) announced that online registration for the 2013 Indoor Nationals will take place on Saturday, December 8, 2012.

Celebrating its 16th year of defensive pistol shooting excellence, the 2013 Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship will take place February 21-23 on the indoor ranges of the Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Due to the incredible popularity of the Indoor Nationals, which draws more than 300 of IDPA’s top competitors and routinely sells out in a matter of minutes, organizers have outlined the priority points system being used for this year’s registration process.

IDPA members that have competed in the championship in one or more of the last four years will receive one (1) priority point for each year they participated in the match. Competitors can check their priority points ranking on the match registration site. Online registration will begin at 8:00am EST Saturday morning, December 8 and proceed as follows:

8:00 AM – Registration opens for shooters with four (4) priority points
10:00 AM – Registration opens for shooters with three (3) priority points
12:00 PM – Registration opens for shooters with two (2) priority points
2:00 PM – Registration opens for shooters with one (1) priority point
4:00 PM – General registration opens for all remaining shooters

General registration for all IDPA members will follow the priority point registration and will start at 4:00pm EST on December 8. Any remaining slots still available at that time will be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis.

An outline of the complete match registration process has been emailed to past competitors but is also posted on IDPA’s Down Zero blog. All IDPA shooters interested in entering the 2013 Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship are encouraged to carefully review and familiarize themselves with the procedure prior to the start of online registration on December 8, 2012.

The Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship is one of the most popular shooting matches in the country, selling out last year in a matter of just minutes. This weekend the early registration process was announced for the 2013 championship match. Online registration based on priority points will begin at 8:00am EST and continue throughout the day on Saturday, December 8. General registration will open at 4:00pm EST that same day.

The following is the announcement that was distributed via email this weekend:

2013 Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship
February 21-23, 2013

NEW PROCEDURE PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:

As a shooter in at least one of the last 4 years, you are entitled to register early. General registration opens at 4:00pm EST on December 8, 2012.

Priority registration opens on December 8, 2012 as follows:

4 year priority 8:00am
3 year priority 10:00am
2 year priority 12:00Noon
1 year priority 2:00pm

You are already in the database. You can check your priority, and therefore, your registration time at www.MatchReg.com/SW/priority.htm (please contact me if there are any errors or questions).

You can go to www.MatchReg.com/SW/reg/ at any time to complete your personal info, class, division etc. You enter your IDPA member number EXACTLY as it is listed on the priority list, on the left side of the page. Enter the password “2013match” (without the “) (you should change the password to keep others from changing your data). Complete or correct any info there and click the save “shooter button”.

At any time AFTER your priority registration time begins, you can log back in, click on the “My Squad” link and put yourself into a squad. It is critically important that you exit the program by clicking on the “return to shooter home” link, then exiting the program. Otherwise your squad choice will not be saved and you will lose your slot in the match.

If you keep the squad page open, it may appear that there are slots open when they have been filled. This is because your data does not save until you exit the record. This match fills within minutes; you could lose your slot by not choosing quickly, then exiting the program. You can monitor the squads with this link.

The squad info is date and time stamped. If you choose your squad before your priority time, you will be deleted from the squad (without notice) and may choose from any remaining slots (if available).

You should then IMMEDIATELY mail a check in the amount of $150.00 USD, payable to S&W Indoor National to:

Mike Critser
21 Williams Road
Trumbull, CT 06611

When I receive your check, you will see a “paid” next to your name in the squad list. If I do not receive your check within 14 days, you will be deleted from the match without notice.

BERRYVILLE, Ark. – The International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) and Smith & Wesson have announced that for the fifth year in a row members of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy’s Combat Arms Team will take part in the Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship, designing two of the 12 stages and working the match as Safety Officers.

Now in its 16th consecutive year, the Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championship has grown to become one of the premier events in all the shooting sports, and marks the official start of the IDPA competition season.

The Coast Guard Academy’s role in the production of the Smith & Wesson Indoor Nationals began in 2009 when the Combat Arms Team had 18 cadets and five staff participating in the match and one of the stages was based on a Coast Guard design.

Since then the Coast Guard Academy has been a fixture at the championship and designed and run the competition’s most prominent stage located on the public range area of the Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center complex. The cadets have also had the privilege each year of presenting the colors at the awards banquet.

“Smith & Wesson has worked closely with collegiate shooting teams in New England and has established a strong working relationship with the Coast Guard Academy. The Academy’s Combat Arms Team has built a reputation for designing some of the most creative stages at the Indoor Nationals and their professionalism is a credit to Coast Guard. It is a great pleasure to once again welcome the cadets of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy to the Smith & Wesson Indoor Nationals,” said Joyce Wilson, executive director for IDPA.

“It’s an honor for the team to represent both the U.S. Coast Guard and the Academy while serving the shooting community. We are extremely proud of the important role the Academy’s Combat Arms Team plays in this championship and look forward to working with the staff and competitors,” said Chad Barber of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

“Though the Smith & Wesson Indoor Nationals kicks-off the IDPA shooting season, for those cadets that are seniors, the match represents an exciting culmination of a leadership and planning exercise that will serve them well as they prepare to dedicate their futures to the service of the Nation.”

The USCGA Combat Arms Team was formed in the early 70’s to compete against the other service academies. After 2001 the team turned its focus towards law enforcement qualifications and other competitions. As a result of their training and experience senior cadets on the team have been afforded internship opportunities during summer training periods with several of the Coast Guard’s Tactical Law Enforcement Teams (TACLET), Maritime Safety and Security Teams’s (MSST) and Maritime Security Response Team (MSRT).

The 2013 match will take place February 21-23 and is expected to draw over 300 of the best IDPA shooters to Springfield, Massachusetts to compete on the indoor ranges of the Smith & Wesson Shooting Sports Center.
