2005 IDPA Championship Results

Special thanks to the Central Arkansas Shooters' Association; host of the 2003, 2004 and 2005 IDPA National Championship.

The 2005 IDPA National Championship is now officially complete and behind us for another year. By all accounts it was one of the best Nationals ever. The match was 18 stage requiring 226 rounds to complete and an exciting mix of short ‘burn them down’ stages and longer field courses.  With 289 competitors in the match, this amounted to a minimum of 65,315 expended downrange.  This made for a challenging match for all levels of shooters. Based on comments from competitors, this was one of the toughest matches that they have shot in a while but all had a great time shooting it. One of the things that made this match so challenging, besides the actual courses of fire, was the fact that it was 100 degrees with 90 percent humidity for most of the match. That’s tough weather to shoot a match in. Many thanks go out to the people on the drink cart and everyone else riding around on four wheelers carrying water and Powerade to the shooters and safety officers. Because of their efforts, we were able to avoid losing people to heat exhaustion. Even though we complain about the heat, we are thankful for what we got; it could have been much worse. Our competitor numbers were down a little from last year. We received a large number of calls from people that could not make it due to the destruction caused by Katrina or the impending arrival of Rita. To those affected, our hearts and thoughts are with you.

In addition to all that was going on out at the range, there were the hospitality rooms and the barbeque at the hotel. Wednesday and Thursday at the hotel were the hospitality rooms and some really good eating and some relief from the heat outside. This is always a great time to sit around and talk with friends that you only get to see once or twice a year. Saturday was the barbeque and more good eating. It was also more time to spend in fellowship with other shooters, telling stories about how well (or poorly) that we shot.

A special thanks to match director John May and all of his staff. He and his crew of C.S.O.’s and S.O.’s did a wonderful job of officiating the match. Also, a big thank you to the people in the stat shack. They did a tremendous job in getting the scores entered and posted both at lunch and the end of the day and also on the internet. Great job!

The number of people it takes to put on a match of this size is pretty substantial. A big thank you to all of the people at the Central Arkansas Shooters Association for all the hard work they put in to get the range ready for the match. Every year they add a little more to their club to make this match run a little better. Special thanks again to all the people that helped put on this match and especially those people listed below.
